How to Clean a Speaker- Reconing

To prepare your speaker for reconing you must remove the original parts. Use a utility blade to cut around the outside of the cone. Slice the pigtail leads and then cut around the spider. Remove the assembly and cover the voice coil gap with masking tape. This is a very important step that people forget. (Keeps dirt and debris out of magnet gap.) Remove whatever remaining spider you can before using either the utility blade or a straight edge razor to remove the old adhesives.  Use a utility blade, insert under the original gasket (if there is one) and circle 360º. Remove the gasket and then use the same blade to scrape all parts residue from the edge of the speaker frame. Use your thumb like a fulcrum to push the blade and keep the blade facing away from you. Clean speaker terminal. We never use any solvents or other chemicals
