Very happy with the results after reconing a JBL 2275H from a PRX 815XLFW. The voice coil on the original speaker had melted and unwound itself.
This was my first recone and the staff here were great. They were responsive to email questions I kept asking.
One thing to note, this aftermarket kit comes with a 6” dust cap while the OEM speaker has a 4.4” dustcap.
Another thing to note: the adhesives linked above didn’t seem as strong as what was on the original cone. Also the original spider seemed firmer and more robust compared to the replacement. This is an aftermarket kit however so changes are to be expected.
In addition to the adhesives listed in the product description, as of July 2022, make sure you also get a 4.4” dustcap – part # DCP4406. I also got the black JBL adhesive to glue the dustcap in place listed here as “JBL Black Glue CP Moyen RS-3087 Cement 1 oz Tube.”
Follow the directions and go slow. On the existing cone there is a lot of rubbery tacky glue covering the terminals on the voice coil under the cap. I cut away the glue and then de-soldered the terminals. I then re-soldered to the new terminals on the new voice coil in the same location and glued them to the cone using the black JBL glue mentioned above.
We played a show this weekend and pushed the sub as hard as ever for over an hour and it was as good as new! Time will tell if this is a permanent fix. But if you are desperate for a repair this will do the job, and it did so for me.
